I think this is the first time I've ever actually been excited to update my journal.
A few days ago I made an entry about the verse in Phillipians chapter 2 (14-18?) about shining like stars. I said something about it being difficult to shine out all the time and the like. When I was in the swimming pool in the hotel we were staying at in Bangkok it hit me what "to shine" really means: consistancy.
I was thinking about how the stars really aren't that bright from where we are and how they weren't visible during the day and how they can be covered by clouds. The real shine of a star is in it's consistancy - sure they can be covered up and moved up and down a few degrees, but they'll always be there. In the same placement and shining at the same pace. Many civilizations have made calendars based on the stars movements in the heavens - basically the stars are so consistant they could set their watches to them.
Thats the kind of person I want to be - someone that others can set their watches to. Not some fickle feather floating on the wind. The Bible reemphasizes the point when it talks of God hating lukewarm people - saying one thing and doing another in their promises and not being firm in their faiths. We've all known people who really shine, but not many. People who, from being around them for a long time, you see the Christ in them through true shining example. I pray daily that I can be one of these to others, but have a long way to go.
Right now I'm in Koh Tao, Thailand. There is a lot to write about it but it is midnight and I've got a 7:30 dive tomorrow morning so it is time to get some rest. Adios!
