4:16pm: Hymn 19
Lord, we are vile, concieved in sin
And born unholy and unclean
Sprung from the man whose guilty fall
corrupts his race and taints us all.

Soon as we draw one infant breath
the seeds of sin grow up for death
Thy law demands a perfect heart
but we're defiled in every part.

Great God, create my heart anew
and form my spirit pure and true.
O make me wise betimes to see
my danger and my remedy.

Behold, I fall before thy face
My only refuge is thy grace
No outward forms can make me clean
the leprosy lies deep within

No bleeding bird, nor bleeding beast
nor hyssop branch nor sprinkling priest,
nor running brook, nor flood, nor sea,
can wash the dismal stain from me.

Jesus, my God, thy blood alone
Hath power sufficient to atone
Thy blood can make me white as snow
No law or deed could cleanse me so.

While guilt disturbs and breaks my peace
nor flesh, nor soul hath rest or ease.
Lord, let me hear thy pardoning voice
and make my broken heart rejoice.

11:26pm: This week (month?)
I guess this week/month/stage in my life have just been weird. I need to get off my butt and move on with my life... There are just so many things that I'd like to do, and only one person I can think of to do them with.

Do you ever have one of those days where you doubt your own character to the point that God slaps you upside the head and says "hey, ya dumb! EVERYONE is a rascal, some people are just better at sewing fig leaves together. YOU are who I want for your here and now." Today was nothing like that. Seriously.

...

Moving on.

After getting back from the church, I got to hang out with the family... it has been a LONG time since all four of us have actually spent time just chilling. My brother brought one of his dogs, lots of good time swimming and running around. Family, no matter how cliche it sounds, is an amazing institution.

9:31pm: Mission Trip
Current Mood: accomplished
So I got to be a group leader for our church's junior high mission trip to south dallas. Each group was named after a certain part of the body (we learned about being the body of Christ). We were the legs, so here was our cheer - we had to say it anytime anybody said "legs". There are also motions.

OOOOOoooooooohhhhhhhhhhh theeerrreeessssssss
Peg leg,
Hairy leg,
Shave your leg,
Turkey leg,
Right leg,
Left leg,
Break a leg,
Zombie leg,
Last leg.

10:33pm:
Current Mood: giddy
Some things I learned in the last few days:

1) Goldfish are suprisingly easy to get rid of.
2) Sadly, tiny frogs are equally easy to kill.
3) Watching tiny frogs struggle is apparently really funny... who knew?
4) Borat is funny.
5) When looking into someone's eyes makes your heart swell, you've got something good.
6) Three hours isn't as far as it seems it would be.
7) Happy hour is made from the people you share it with, not booze.
8) That song that says "I am redeemed, and I'm a mess" is really good.
9) Marshmellow fights DO exist.

3rd March 2007

1:58pm: irrational fear
Current Mood: confused
So I was walking with my food towards the media room in our church. I was chomping away at some french fries that were too hot, and reached into my pocket for my keys. My brain was so turned off, I stopped.

I thought: Holy crap, I ate my keys.

Then I thought: Other pocket.

12:19am: Road Trip!
So after graduation I went to 52. Matt Chandler, Chris Witt, the works. Pretty much great.

Right now I'm in North Carolina, to visit my friend Arthur. My camera is being fickle, so pictures might be out. I'm typing this while I'm trying to deal with that, so both this entry and the photo uploading aren't really getting the attention they deserve. Anyway, getting to see Arthur is pretty great.

(now I know the camera won't work)

I also got to meet and get to know Arthur's fiance, which was pretty great.

(no time, random information)

My pastor is on facebook, and only has 3 friends. Sadness.

I'm going to get to see my uncle Mike and cousin Genna tomorrow, which I'm pretty excited about. I got to see my cousin Mike the day before he went back to school, which was pretty great too. Thats what I love about family - that unbreakable unity that can only be achieved by blood. My family is great, no matter what kind of messed up stuff goes down. I love them.

Need sleep. 8 hours to Columbus tomorrow.

3:27pm: final
Current Mood: nervous
My final final is in an hour, and I'll be graduated less than 24 hours after that. Eep.

After graduation is Christmas. Then 52. Then road trip with Arthur. Then... nothing solid yet besides taking the Foreign Service Exam in April. Eep.

3:34pm: The Brick Testament
The Brick Testament

Somebody took the time to illustrate the entire bible in Legos. Right now I'm reading Judges. Here are some samples:

Lots of massacre in Judges, if you didn't know.

You'd hide too if 70 of your brothers were killed.

1:46am: snow weekend
So Wednesday morning I wake up for work at 5am, as usual. Outside it is warm, even though the sun isn't out yet. By 10am it was freezing cold outside, and the wind and clouds blew in as I drove. I went to class at noon only to hear that the professor didn't feel like having class and told everyone to go home.

School was cancelled on Thursday. When I saw the news on the OU website I ran out of my room, and like a kid I jumped up and down in front of the living room TV my housemates were watching and yelled "No school! No school! Yaaaayyyy!" They promptly and calmly told me to get out of the way and they had found out an hour ago.

Didn't have to work on Friday.

Me and Baret basically sat around the house and watched Boston Legal for the majority of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We also played some Wii - Rayman and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

Left the house twice in the last four days.

27th November 2006

11:49pm: Almost done with school! Ohboyohboyohboy!

Thanksgiving break was great. I got to see my family, which doesn't happen nearly enough anymore, as well as some totally rockin other people! We ate Thanksgiving lunch at the Gaylord Texan, and then basically chilled at home for the rest of the day. I even went shopping for five hours or so with my mom on "Black Friday." Me and Angela hang out, and even tried (and basically failed) to make fried rice... because I was in the mood for some fried rice.

My mom was the only one who managed to escape from playing the Wii - both my dad and brother seemed to really like it. On the way back to Norman I stopped in a small town Wal-Mart to buy a second controller.

Sunday morning I visited the village with Angela and her friend Haley... pretty much a great service.

19th November 2006

10:34pm: Wii
Yes, I got a Nintendo Wii. It. Is. Awesome.

Myself, Richard, Rolando, and Baret all drove to Paul's Valley (like 45 mins away), waited in line for 3 hours, and got one of that store's 18 systems. Then we decided to go gawk at the people who have been camping out in front of Target and Best Buy since Friday/Saturday for the Sunday 9am openings of those stores. (we got ours at midnight). Richard decided to encourage the people by holding his Wii box out of the car window and yelling "Keep in there! Its totally worth it!" The people at Target didn't take it very well, and the people in front of Best Buy just blankly stared.

The two games I've got so far are Wii Sports (which came with the system) and Trauma Center. Oh man! So great. I can't explain how cool the system is to use, you just have to experience it for yourself. Its unlike any game system yet - for example, in Wii Sports, you actually point the controller at the ground and swing it (at varying strength) to play golf.

I'm glad all of my major schoolwork was last week, for sure.

31st October 2006

9:43pm: Halloween
Current Mood: scared
So I ended up celebrating Halloween today without even trying. Heres how:

- - Cold and windy all day; no sunshine (spooky)
- - Watched a video of both an Iraqi soldier getting murdered and, after debate and deciding how "acceptable" that was, of an American getting the same treatment. Pretty much an awesome class, made everybody REALLY think. (unsettling)
- - Went in to apply for graduation (scary)
- - Didn't even realize it was Halloween (suprise/suspense) until I saw a lady behind a desk in a bathrobe. I seriously thought "how unprofessional, coming to work in a bathrobe" before coming to the realization that it was indeed Halloween.
- - Was told my graduation wasn't on file (scary), then was told they haven't filed it yet because they're busy. Come back later (relief)
- - Watched a documentary hosted by my teacher, made 20 years before (ghost of documentaries past)
- - Played Disgaea 2, which is about some demons (demons)
- - Discovered that my scarf can cover my whole face and I can still see out of it (looks scary)
- - Finished reading World War Z, which is about the zombie war. Reading this has seriously made me a little "zombie paranoid". Not actually afraid of being attacked by zombies, but I find myself thinking "OK, this room wouldn't be very survivable if the house got swarmed" and stuff like that. The book is seriously a good read. Do it. (zombie paranoid)
- - The light in my room went out and I've been too lazy to buy another (spooky)

30th October 2006

12:42am: recently
Current Mood: numb
So here is what has been going on in my life (summed up)

I haven't showered in a few days. Nothing new.

My friend went to a funeral this weekend, and instead of consoling her or saying something supportive I wanted to say that I'm jealous. The only family funeral we've had was when I was in China, and it would've been nice to be there with everyone to say goodbye.

No Halloween celebrations for me. The reasons are that a) none of my good friends are the "partying" kind, including myself. b) i was invited to one party but didn't want to go because i didn't know anybody and didn't have a costume. I'm not going to be a toilet paper mummy... again.

Speaking of friends, I haven't really made any new ones this semester. I've kept pretty well in touch with my friends after learning about the importance of communication living in China... but I just haven't met anyone new this semester.

I have no clue if we're going to have kids come to the house on Halloween... we don't really have any candy or anything. I remember looking at those houses with the porch light off when I was a kid. "How incredibly lame are you?" I'd ask myself. Well, a trip to the store is in order for tomorrow. Candy time.

Yesterday I took a free practice LSAT. I'd never seen problems or even the format of the test, so it was a little strange - some sections were bigger suprises than others, and i'm interested to see how well i did (wednesday). It wasn't like I had anything else to do with a Saturday afternoon anyway.

Today is my dad's birthday! He is old....er. Like 50something. 52? My mom is older than him. My parents are cool.

I play World of Warcraft way too much - my console systems are gathering dust. To combat this, I'm getting FF12. I also decided to not buy either one of the new consoles (ps3 and the Wii) until I get my life in order and get settled into either working somewhere after graduation or going to school some more.

The word "blog", for whatever reason, makes me cringe.

This entry was kind of all over the place.

19th October 2006

5:04am: creative napping
Current Mood: hungry
So I ended up staying up all night playing the guitar, World of Warcrafting, and watching a lot of an anime called Project Arms.

Guitar? Guitar! I got a guitar. I'd asked for a guitar from my parents for Christmas, and we went shopping over the weekend (Guitar Center is pretty amazing, by the way). There was a really good used guitar that was pretty much amazing, so they got it for me! Not only that, but they let me take it back to school right now which is great... but all I'm getting for Christmas is an empty box with a note that says "guitar" inside of it.

So... tomorrow is only a few hours away, and this is my plan. It is 5am right now (and I'm hungry). My first class was cancelled tomorrow, BUT my meeting to evaluate my credit from study abroad in China is at 10:30am, followed by class at 1:30-4:30 and then an organized World of Warcraft raid from 6:30 to 11.

Heres where the system of "creative napping" comes into play. 5:00 now and you're hungry? Go eat in the union and take a nap (4 hrs 30 mins) on one of the couches, waking up shortly before your meeting. BAM! Theres an extra half hour of sleep that would normally be taken up by waking up, getting ready, driving, parking, and walking. Follow the meeting with nap #2 (2 hrs 30 mins) so you won't fall asleep in class. Grab some food on the way back from class, then take another nap (1 hr 30 mins) and viola! You've gotten your 8 hours of sleep for the day and didn't miss any of it!

Off to eat. Rusty out.

12:41pm: quotes
Current Mood: restless
Any road followed precisely to its end leads precisely nowhere. Climb the mountain just a little bit to test that it's a mountain. From the top of the mountain, you cannot see the mountain.
-Frank Herbert, Dune

There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.
-Commander Adama, Battlestar Galactica

It is better for a leader to make a mistake in forgiving than to make a mistake in punishing.
-Muhammad, Hadith

We need not to be let alone. We need to be really bothered once in a while. How long is it since you were really bothered? About something important, about something real?"
-Fahrenheit 451

Any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is is clearly a man to be reckoned with.
-The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.
-C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.
-C.S. Lewis

12:52pm:
Current Mood: contemplative
The other night I took a metal folding chair out into the center of the backyard, smoked my once-per-month pipe, and did nothing. Nothing. I sat. I prayed. I drank my Dr. Pepper. I text messaged someone who means a lot to me. (OK, so I did a lot of minor things, but that doesn't make up for the overall doing nothingness). Anyway, I'm going to make a habit of it. The Bible knows what it is talking about when it says "Be still and know that I am God."

I'm thinking about going home in two weekends, and then maybe going to Tyler to visit Sky Ranch peeps and then go gambling in Shreveport with said friends to go gambling a bit.

After class today I'll be done until Monday, which I'm a little excited about. This week has been pretty stressful and jam-packed with the schooling.

I've got a lot on my mind, so any prayer is appreciated.

3rd October 2006

12:35am: it sure does
You know those days when things from your normal environment jump out at you, when things you pass by every day suddenly become interesting or noticeable?

I've walked by this sign for a month and a half on the way back to my car from my Tuesday/Thursday classes. I hate myself for not giggling at it sooner.
